“Sugar, We All End Up In Diapers”

I love Cate Blanchett.  She is my favorite, for sure.  In The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, she says to Brad Pitt, “Sugar, we all end up in diapers.”

First of all.  That movie is wonderful and so thought provoking, especially as a care-taker to Alzheimer’s patients.  Second of all, that line basically sums up life.

Since we are young, we can say and think up the most complicated and theological and philandering ideas.  But in the end, our brain function decreases.  Our bodies give out.  What we are left with is the assurance of our salvation.

So, I’ve come to a conclusion.  It is this.  Say all the crazy, big, wonderful, complex, heartfelt things you have to say, now.  Be patient and gentle with your learning curves and your body.  Show this same kindness to others.  Love Jesus foremost and with fervor and learn with earnest elasticity.

…And maybe consider praying for compassionate, butt-wiping angels nurses for when your time comes.  :o)
